My New Love: IR Photography

So today I got bored and decided to take some pictures. I was looking through my dad’s photo gear and found an Infared filter. What this does is block out visable light and only let in IR light, it gives an out-of-this-world kinda look to everything, especially plants.

I’ve been interested in IR photography for a long time but never had access to any of the equipment before. Of course, what I am doing to only half IR photography, I only have the filter. The real way to do it is to either:
a) have a film SLR with IR sensitive film and an IR filter or
b) to have a modified DSLR camera.

‘a’ is pretty simple, just requires a TON of stuff I don’t have (like a decent film camera). ‘b’ is also pretty simple, you just have to open up your camera and remove the IR blocker in it and put in a visable light one instead... yeah, not so simple. This requires YOU TO TAKE YOUR CAMERA APART and have it become a dedicated IR camera, not what I need. Luckily the third option is to use the cameras slight IR viewing ability and put the IR filter on that. The problem is since only IR is getting in and the camera blocks IR light you get REALLY under exposed pictures:IR clouds

Just incase you can’t tell, there are clouds in that picture...

So, I used my point-and-shoot (Canaon PowerShot SD1000). This is a far from perfect solution, since I have to hold the filter infront of the lense... plus it’s a small camera. But even so, it produces some wild shots:

This is with the IR filter:
IR tree
And this is without the IR filter:
no IR tree

So, if you also like IR photography I will have a new album up here for all my IR images. Just in case you are curious... here is the link IR Photography.

Its Been a While

So, its been a while since I posted anything. Its mostly due to being too busy doing things to post. The past few weeks I have taken a ton of new photos and finished a new wallpaper.

To start, the wallpaper: My new wallpaper is called The Light: Original. This is the original implementation of The Light. This is what it was supposed to look like, and what I had in mind before I added the planet.

This is the original iteration of The Light. This one is more from the down-to-(insert random planet here) point of view. I thnk you really need to do more than look at the in page preview to really see the whole thing... but thats just me.

*Copied from my journal*
Over a month after posting the The Light, I have finally finished the follow up peice to it, even though this is how the peice was originally envisioned it changed on me and now I have reenvisioned it.

This is my new all time favourite wallpaper: The Light- Original. This one came out EXACTLY how I wanted it. The stars, the light its self, the reflection, the texture of the ocean, and the clouds. Each came together just perfecly, or as close as a peice of art can get to perfection.

One of my favourite parts (two actually) are the stars and the clouds. The stars look amazing, they have a subtle color variations and they each have little blurs around them. And the clouds, the parted just how they should, it looks as if they are being pushed away by the light, and as such they wrap around.

Ah, I am very happy how this one turned out, I hope everyone else enjoys it as much as I do.

And now for the new pictures.
Over the past few weeks I have created a new album called Random, this is an album I will be posting just random pictures of me and my friends doing whatever. Since I originally created the album I have had several sets of pictures to upload, but have not gotten the chance. So I am now uploading new pictures. Enjoy...

Ah. It feels good to finally post again. I should be posting more often seeing that school is coming to a close. Until next time.

Big Bend National Park (Take Two) and Random

Over the weekend I went to Big Bend National Park for a second time. Since this was my second time I was able to concentrate on more specific pictures, not just the general landscape. I think I got a ton of great photos, especially from the South Rim during the sunrise at 7:00AM. So here's the link to the album, take a look.

Also, I now have a random album up for pictures that are, well, just random. These can be from anywhere that don't really go with a certain event and are just on-the-fly and spontaneous. Take a look.
